Linear solenoids are subdivided into:
Single-acting linear solenoids (solenoid force developed in one direction, return action happens mechanically,
e.g. with a spring, or your application mechanism).
Two-directional linear solenoids (motion is effected by energising one of two coils).
Bistable solenoids (movement is achieved with an electrical pulse, direction is determined by polarity, and end
positions are maintained by a permanent magnet at one end and a spring at the other)
