Rotary Solenoids > E Series

This is a square cross section design which is available in 4 standard body sizes, defined by body width, The range is 35/50/75 & 100mm. The E series develop a high torque output because of the mass within a small envelope

Although any angle of travel up to 95° can be specified the range provides for 5 standard movements, 25°, 35°, 45°, 65° and 95°. Each is fixed by design.

The choice of body size will depend on the torque your application needs. E series can develop up to 430Ncm (E92, end stroke torque on 14% duty cycle). Mechanical options include through-shaft, or single-shaft, clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation, and the position of a return spring(if any).

Any DC operating coil voltage is possible, although the most common is 24VDC. AC operation can be achieved using a silicon bridge rectifier. In the standard Kuhnke E series, a 205 voltage is shown, representing the performance expected when using 230VAC supply and a silicon bridge rectifier.

As a guide to body size needed to achieve a particular torque select the appropriate data sheet for download from the list below

Remember that rotary solenoids have a starting torque (shown in these tables as MA) and an end torque which is higher(ME). The available torque depends on duty cycle (please see our glossary for explanations) Expressed here as a percentage

E3: > 11.2Ncm end torque, 5% duty cycle
E3: > 2.5Ncm end torque, 100% duty cycle
E5: > 41Ncm end torque, 7% duty cycle
E5: > 18.5Ncm end torque, 100% duty cycle
E7: > 133Ncm end torque, 8 duty cycle%
E7: > 78Ncm end torque, 100% duty cycle
E9: > 450Ncm end torque, 10% duty cycle
E9: > 220Ncm end torque, 100% duty cycle

The above illustrations are taken for 25° angular travel, end torque. Starting torques are less, and all torque ratings reduce, the greater the angular travel

Part number explanation. The different variations of E series solenoids are coded into the part number which is is made up of 9 components. We have shown these here in the headings A to I. Explanations are shown below the table.

A B C D E F G H I
E 3 2 L O L F 24VDC 100%ED
5 3 R R R N 205 SP%ED
7 4 B L B   SP
9 6

A = Design Series, in this case all E
B = Defines body width: 3 = 35mm, 5 = 50mm, 7 = 75mm, and 9 = 100mm
C = Angular travel: 2 = 25°, 3 = 35°, 4 = 45°, 6 = 65°, 9 = 95°
D = Direction of rotation: L = Anti-clockwise, R = Clockwise, B = Through-shaft
E = Shoulder: O = Standard withough mounting ring, R = Optional, L = Optional
F = Return Spring: L = On anti-clockwise shaftend, R = On clockwise shaft end, O = No return spring fitted, B = Spring on both sides
G = Connections: F = Flying leads, standard 20cm, N = Plug for push on connectors
H = Nominal voltaage, usually 24VDC
I = Duty Cycle(ED is an abbreviation of the German Einschaltdauer)
