Most frequently the engineering is a simple variance of a standard linear or rotary solenoid. This is to achieve a particular duty cycle or force or a specific force/stroke curve. Solenoid bodies can be modified for particular mounting, and plungers can be designed to interface with special threads, shapes, slots, holes etc.
Electrical connections can be manufactured to suit your own needs, with any length or colour of flying leads, with special plugs or connectors, or with integrated cicuits.
