There are four standard latching or bi-stable solenoid designs in 4 frame sizes. Each is a small open frame Kuhnke solenoid designed with locking mechanisms in mind. Stroke sizes are up to 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm and 8mm. Force up to 45 Newtons at typical. Force depends entirely on the size selected, stroke and duty cycle.
The solenoid is operated once, then held in position, or latched by either a spring or a permanent magnet until it is operated a second time to return it to the start position.
The most common voltage is 24VDC, but these solenoids can be wound for most DC voltages.
Note: Because these solenoids are pulled and held in locked position by magnet the duty cycle of the coil does not have to be 100%. Do not quote the actual duty cycle as it will confuse.

Kuhnke BI series .
Bi-stable solenoids. 4 standard body sizes.
Part number explanation. The different versions of BI solenoids are coded into the part number which is made up of 5 components, which we have shown here in the headings A - E. Explanations are shown below the table.
| A | B | C | D | E |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BI | 8 | F | 24 | 100%ED |
| 13 | L | |||
| 17 | ||||
| 34 |
A = Design, in this case BI
B = Design type/framesize, 3, 8, 13, 17 or 34
C = Connections, F = flying leads, L = soldered pins
D = Voltage in DC
E = Duty cycle, can be any percentage
